Take a First Look at Hearthstone’s New Class Sets

Earlier this year, we teased that something new was in the works for Hearthstone: Class Sets. Now, it’s time to pull back the curtain and show you what they’re all about!

Starting with Patch 35.4, mini-sets will be taking a break. In their place, we’re introducing Class Sets. We love how mini-sets shake things up between major expansions, but this felt like the perfect opportunity to try a different kind of innovation.

What Is a Class Set?

A Class Set is a focused release of new cards for a single class. Four Class Sets are released at a time, with three waves planned throughout the year. Unlike Mini-Sets, which offered a small number of cards to every class, Class Sets focus on fewer classes at once so each one gets a larger, more impactful set of new cards.

For this first batch of Class Sets, four classes are stepping forward:

  • Druid
  • Hunter
  • Paladin
  • Mage

Each of these classes will be receiving a tailored set of cards designed to dial up class fantasy, support new and existing archetypes, and give you plenty of room to experiment in deckbuilding and gameplay.

Why We’re Trying Class Sets

This change comes from a few clear goals within the Hearthstone design team:

  • Stronger class moments: Focusing on fewer classes lets us give each a distinct game plan and identity, making them shine more than before.
  • More noticeable meta shifts: Concentrated releases bring clearer day-one changes. You’ll see what’s new and feel how the landscape shifts right away.
  • More impactful updates throughout the year: Different classes will rotate into the spotlight, keeping the meta dynamic without changing everything at once.

If your favorite class is not part of the initial lineup, we know that can be a bummer, but this approach lets each class shine brighter when its turn comes, and yours will have its moment later this year.

Preview the Restoration of Azeroth Class Sets

Now, take a closer look at the four classes kicking things off.

Deathwing devastated Azeroth, and now it’s time to rebuild. Druid, Hunter, Paladin, and Mage lead the charge to mend the broken lands and restore Azeroth to its former glory. The theme of rejuvenation and empowerment runs through these Restoration of Azeroth Class Sets, offering new combos and synergies.

Each Class Set delivers a full package of seven new cards. Here’s a preview of some of the cards you’ll find in these Class Sets.

Druid Class Set

Druids focus on healing Azeroth by restoring broken ecosystems, and that patience-first mindset defines how the class plays.

The Druid Class Set is built for a longer game, mixing spells and minions with powerful delayed payoffs. For example, Wizened Wildspeaker rewards you for skipping a minion play, letting you invest a turn now for a bigger swing later. As the game goes long, other cards cash in that setup with massive value, turning your careful pacing into a flood of power and sustained healing.

Hunter Class Set

Hunters help Azeroth recover by protecting creatures displaced by the Cataclysm and forming new bonds with them.

Hunter’s Class Set revolves around upgrading your Animal Companions over the course of the game. Tame Pet helps you search for bigger Beasts and turn them into stronger companions, letting you call upon them as the game progresses. With these new cards, Hunters can continually improve their Beasts, scaling into larger threats as you find new options.

Paladin Class Set

Paladins restore Azeroth by rebuilding communities and bringing order back to a fractured world.

The Paladin class set focuses on empowering Silver Hand Recruits and turning small boards into big armies. Emboldening Blade helps your Recruits grow into threats. Use cards like Muster for Battle to quickly fill the board, then drop Arator the Redeemer to push your army even further.

Mage Class Set

Mages work to restore Azeroth by stabilizing shattered Leylines and bringing volatile magic back under control.

The Mage Class Set centers on Leylines, powerful spells that can be upgraded over the course of the game. There are three Leyline spells, and new cards will let you enhance them by increasing their power, reducing their cost, or making them trigger additional times. This creates a flexible spell package that rewards smart sequencing and long-term planning.

(Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you. There are 11 classes in Hearthstone, and yet… 12 Class Sets. That’s because one class is getting a second set. Go ahead, start guessing.)
