Plans to remove Divine Spirit? | Priest in the Past

If you say you want to play Priest, there are 2 Decks you might play: In Wild Big Priest, in Standard Combo Priest.

67-77% of all Priests on Ladder (Legend – Rank 25) are Combo Priest Players (Source1 and Source2) so players want to see Divine Spirit nerfed.

There are some updates on this topic, but first, let’s look back at the past of Combo Priest and Priest, in general, using vicious syndicate. If you want to see the graphics bigger just click on them and they will pop up!

Whispers of the Old Gods

Launched April 26th, 2016, so let’s see what the meta looked like 2 months after the release

vS Data Reaper Report #6 – June 23, 2016

Priest in total is only 2.23% of the Legend ladder, Combo Priest is not a Part of the Meta

Mean Streets if Gadgetzan

Released December 1, 2016

vS Data Reaper Report #36 – February 2, 2017

Priest is about 7.5% of the Legend Meta, Combo Priest is not a Part of the Meta.

Journey to Un'Goro

Released on April 6, 2017

vS Data Reaper Report #51 June 8, 2017

Priest is a bit over 8% of the Legend Meta. Combo Priest is not a Part of the Meta.

Knights of the Frozen Throne

Released August 10th, 2017

vS Data Reaper Report #65 October 12, 2017

Priest is 22.6% of the Meta. Vicious Syndicate says:

SirVilgaudas hit #76 legend with a Dragon Priest build that runs the full Divine Spirit/Inner Fire package, looking to prey on other Priests since they struggle to deal with powerful mid-game minions as well as big threats. In a similar vein, a Silence Priest deck that runs the DS/IR combo could also be strong in the meta while also performing better against Jade Druid due to being faster.

Kobolds & Catacombs

Released on December 7, 2017

vS Data Reaper Report #80 February 15, 2018

Priest is 22.3% of the Legend Meta. 10% of the Meta is Combo Priest.

The Witchwood

Released on April 12, 2018

vS Data Reaper Report #94 – June 14, 2018

Priest is 5.3% of the Meta. 2.85% of the Meta is Combo Priest.

The Boomsday Project

Released on August 7, 2018

vS Data Reaper Report #109 October 11, 2018

Priest is 5.3% of the Meta. Vicious Syndicate says:

Taking some elements of Resurrect Priest and others from classic Combo Priest, Zalae built a hybrid Combo Priest deck that tries to incorporate the best from both worlds.

Rastakhan's Rumble

Released on December 4, 2018

vS Data Reaper Report #121 February 14, 2019

Priest is 20.1% of the Meta. Vicious Syndicate says:

Wall Priest […] To top it all off, these high health minions work very well with a Divine Spirit win condition complemented by either Inner Fire or Topsy Turvy, making it extremely dangerous for opponents to leave any of the Priest’s minions up.

Rise of Shadows

Released on April 9, 2019

vS Data Reaper Report #133 June 20, 2019

Priest is 2.5% of the Meta. Vicious Syndicate says:

The Priest class is in its normal early cycle funk. We haven’t seen any new deck this week that suggests an Anduin renaissance. For now, it seems that Inner Fire is the most reliable win condition available to Priest, even after the loss of Shadow Visions.

(Now) Saviors of Uldum

Released on August 6, 2019

vS Data Reaper Report #141 September 19, 2019

Priest is 18.9% of the Meta. Combo Priest is 16.22% of the Meta. The Deck itself is the most popular one on the Ladder.

What now?

We have some plans to remove DS, but it comes with some other sweeping changes. If we end up doing that (a big maybe) it will probably be around set rotation timeline because we don’t feel like it’s as much an issue for current Hearthstone as it is for future Hearthstone.

Also, in the past, we saw a leak that talked about a priest nerf (Extra Arms was nerfed)

What to expect?

If nothing specials happen, it seems Divine Spirit might be moving to the Hall of Fame in 2020.
